DIAGNOdent Laser Cavity Screening

Early diagnosis and treatment are the best way to fight cavities. With DIAGNOdent’s advanced technology, not even the tiniest cavities or areas of tooth decay can hide from your dentist. This cutting-edge system allows your dentist to treat minuscule cavities and tooth decay before they develop into large, painful, and expensive problems. DIAGNOdent is comfortable and takes only minutes, but helps keep your mouth healthy for years.

How does DIAGNOdent work?

DIAGNOdent uses a combination of revolutionary laser imaging and audio processing technology to scan each tooth for potential problem areas. Using the fluorescence of your teeth as a guide, DIAGNOdent is able to precisely map out vulnerabilities within the structure of each of your teeth.

In only a few minutes, DIAGNOdent produces a read-out of your entire mouth, detailing areas of tooth decay and cavities. This process is convenient, comfortable, and gives your dentist the advantage of early detection and treatment. The earlier cavities are detected, the faster and easier they can be treated.

DIAGNOdent laser screening is the only way to detect every cavity

Because tooth decay usually forms in the smallest cracks of your tooth’s surface, it is very difficult to detect with traditional methods. In fact, cavities often progress to the point of severe pain and then require multiple procedures, simply because they could not be detected earlier on.

Fluoride toothpaste is a great cavity deterrent, but it only works on the surface of the tooth. This means that cavities can form inside the tooth without you or your dentist noticing, until they have become major problems. DIAGNOdent allows your dentist to find these hidden cavities and tooth decay, and stop them in their earliest stages.

Are you worried you might have a cavity? Call us at Carolina Complete Dental to set up an appointment today, and keep your smile bright and healthy.

ViziLite® Plus

Better screening saves lives.®
You may think that oral cancer only affects a few people, but the American Cancer Society reports that more than 35,000 Americans suffer from it every year. So how do you keep your family safe from oral cancer?

ViziLite® Plus can help your dentist detect signs of oral cancer before it becomes a problem. That means, treatment is much easier and more effective. Standard visual exams are not always able to identify potentially dangerous oral abnormalities, such as oral lesions and precancerous cells, but ViziLite® Plus gives dental health professionals the advantage of early detection.

How it Works
The ViziLite® Plus exam is quick, painless, and efficient. First, you will be given a mouthwash designed to draw attention to cell abnormalities. This special formula actually turns abnormalities in your mouth, throat, tongue, and lips into a low-intensity light source, which makes detection and identification of any threats easier to find for your dentist or hygienist. Next, your dental health provider will mark any potential problem areas with our TBlue® dye, a non-toxic substance that allows your dentist or hygienist to monitor the growth of lesions over time. By the time your next appointment arrives, your dentist will know whether you need to visit an oral surgeon for a biopsy and you can receive treatment as early as possible.

Are You at Risk for Oral Cancer?
Although 1 in 4 oral cancer patients report no risk factors, there are some genetic and environmental elements that can put you at a higher risk of developing oral cancer. It is important to remember that having one or more of the following factors does not guarantee the development of oral cancer; they simply increase the chance of getting it.

Tobacco and alcohol use are common in oral cancer patients. If you drink heavily and/or use tobacco in any form, you are more likely to suffer. Oral cancer can also be hereditary, so let your dentist know if anyone in your family has had the disease. Finally, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is known to increase the chances of developing oral cancer.

What is the best way to stay safe? Take charge and minimize your risk by getting rid of your risk factors, especially if you are over 40. You cannot change a genetic predisposition, but you can eliminate alcohol and tobacco from your life, improve your health, and reduce your chances of developing oral cancer.
