Fight Gingivitis at Home! 3 Reasons to Floss Every Day

Posted on January 13th, 2015

FlossingEverybody knows that they should floss every day. But it just doesn’t always happen that way, does it?

We know that flossing is harder than brushing for a number of reasons, but we also know how important it is to your oral health. Dr. Barganier, Dr. Zuffi, Dr. Williams, and Dr. McAdams want all of our patients to floss every day, and we think one of the best ways to encourage you to floss is to give you some great reasons why you should.

Flossing is easier than ever

If you avoid flossing because it’s hard or takes too much time, new technologies are now available to make your life easier. There are floss holders, floss picks, long handled flossing tools, and more to help you floss properly and quickly.

All of these tools are made to take the time and hassle out of flossing, and hopefully help you work it into your daily oral hygiene routine. Tell your Carolina Complete Dental hygienist what troubles you have and she can help recommend which tool might be right for you.

Flossing saves you money

Flossing might take some time, but it’s pretty cheap as far as healthcare goes. A $3.00 roll of floss should last you a few months, which adds up to less than $50 a year. And if you keep your regular appointments with us, you even get some free at your checkups!

On the other hand, not flossing leads to many expensive health issues. It greatly increases your risk of gingivitis, or even advanced gum disease, which is the leading cause of tooth loss. Treating gum disease can be very painful on both your mouth and your checkbook. But it can all be avoided just by daily flossing!

Flossing keeps your teeth white

No matter how much you whiten your teeth with strips, chemicals or bleaches, they are going to stay stained if you don’t have a good oral hygiene routine. When you don’t floss, you are leaving all kinds of food bits and bacteria between your teeth, this causes gingivitis. If these are left to sit for long periods of time, they start to discolor the enamel. Simply flossing everyday can make sure your teeth stay as white as possible, and save you from wasting money on whitening treatments that won’t get you the results you want.

If you have any questions or concerns about flossing, how to floss, or anything else, make sure to ask our Carolina Complete Dental staff at your appointment!
